47 Percent Parody

The 47 Percent Video

47 Percent Parody

On August 17th, a video, Mitt Romney on Obama Voters was posted on youtube. In that video surreptuously taken at a fundraiser by Marc Leder, Romney stated, “There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what…These are people who pay no income tax.” The MotherJones website contains a full transcript of the Mitt Romney secret video which you can read and draw your own conclusions regarding Romney’s “off the cuff” comments to about guests at the $50,000 a plate fundraiser on May 17, 2012, at Leder’s Boca Raton home.

The Democrats immediately pounced on Romney’s comments from secret video. Jon Stewart humously took apart Mitt Romney’s secret video about the ’47 Percent’.

Keith Magill, Executive Editor, on the houmatoday.com website says that it won’t win over many of the people he’s trying to persuade to vote for him, “the 5 to 10 percent in the center that are independents that are thoughtful, that look at voting one way or the other depending upon, in some cases, emotion, whether they like the guy or not.” because his remarks are not likeable.

In an article by Donald B. Barron, Special to the Washington Post, he identifies five myths about the 47 percent

Redding.com makes the point that while Romney said it’s “not my job” to worry about the 47 percent who likely won’t vote for him. He wasn’t saying it wouldn’t be his job to worry about them if he’s elected president.

The entire ’47 percent’ Romney video is revealed on the blog by Gabrielle Levy at upi.com.

NBC’s Domenico Montanaro reports that conservatives have reactions mixed to Romney 47 percent video.

The Romney Country Club

Our parody was based on an blog by Edward McClelland on his Opinion: Mitt Romney or Judge Smails? He points that “Mitt Romney has often been compared to Thurston Howell III, the upper-crust castaway played by Jim Backus on the 1960s sitcom Gilligan’s Island. But I think Romney more closely resembles a different fictional millionaire. Howell enjoyed his wealth, but he also realized he was dependent for survival on Gilligan and the Skipper, the blue-collar sailors who crewed the S.S. Minnow. A better analogue to Romney is Judge Elihu Smails, the uptight president of Bushwood Country Club in the movie Caddyshack.” Our parody shows the four main characters: (1) Mitt Romney as Judge Smails, (2) Paul Ryan as Ty Webb, (3) Marc Leder as Al Czervik and Matt Rhoades as Carl Spockler.

BTW, the house in our poster is Mitt Romney, Wolfeboro house and the golfer (see the humorous montage on youtube) in the original poster is replaced by President Obama’s dog Bo who is apparently on a diet.

I hope that you enjoy the visual parody of the Romneywood Country Club (AKA Romney Country Club or 1 Percent Club) poster which says that “SOME (the 47 percent) PEOPLE JUST DON’T BELONG”! You can compare my parody with one of the original posters at Huggins & Scott Auctions.
