Was Ryan a Good Pick by Romney?

Ryan is tea party's Sir Lancelot

Paul Ryan – the tea party’s new Sir Lancelot

During the Republican primary battles between Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum, I did a couple of parodies on Santorum as Sir Lancelot of the tea party as well as a possible Don Quixote. With Mitt Romney’s selection of Paul Ryan as his running mate, I decided to recycle the two parodies with Ryan as the new protagonist.

Chad Groening and Charlie Butts of OneNewsNow point out that conservatives agree — Ryan an ‘excellent choice’.  However, there are some tea party leaders such as Bob Ellis who states on the American Clarion website that Raul Ryan is a good choice…that could have been better. Who would have better? Allen West is his answer.

Or is Ryan a Don Quixote?

Ariel Edwards-Levy in the Huffington Post, says the Paul Ryan VP pick is an unpopular choice based on the polls collected on August 12th.Ryan as Don Quixote The author provides comparative poll numbers for other VP picks in the past and points out that the “bump” in Romney’s rating as a result of the pick is less than usual. However, the ABC News blog’s poll shows an near-even split on Ryan – but with positive movement.

Tony Rhodin with the Express-Times, claims that Mitt Romney’s choice of Paul Ryan is a gift to Democrats. This view is echoed by the New York Times’ editorial, The Romney-Ryan Plan for America. Bill O’Reilly of the Boston Herald chastised the New York Times for scorching Ryan to the extreme.

So what is the answer to the question, “Was Ryan a good pick by Romney?” Whether you are a conservative or a liberal, the answer appears to be “Yes”, but for entirely different reasons (ideological purity vs. vulnerability).
